“The Lottery”
In the short story “The Lottery” by Shirley Jackson. It was June 27th on a summers day. girls and boys that finished school collect stones during the summer and put them in separate piles. Families then stand together. A person named Mr. Summers is in charge of doing the lottery and Mr. Graves the postmaster. There is a Black Box that has all of the villagers names in it. It usually takes around 2 days but since there is only 300 villagers it only takes two hours. In the story many people are scared and nervous but not in a good way. On the day of the Lottery a woman named Tessie Hutchinson forgot about the day of the lottery and gets there late, everybody laughs at her for getting late. Then people said that Bill Hutchinson got it but Tessie argued that it wasn't fair because Bill didn't have time to draw a paper. The Lottery to Tessie wasn't fair because she had three kids and theres a big chance someone in her family cold get chosen. Then Mr. Graves dumps out the papes onto the ground and each member of the family had to choose. When they all Chose theirs Tessie picks one with a black dot. Mr. Summers tells the villagers to hurry up. They all grab stones and throw it at her and threw some at her head.
