In Chapter 2 of Ten Letters by Ellie Saslow, a boy named Steff Johnson goes to a catholic school and talks about how Barack Obama and him are a like. Steff is running for student body president. His mother was a single and unemployed. She worked as a receptionist on both of her jobs. Steff later won and her mom didn't know. She was behind in many payments and didn't know how to pay Steff's tuition for college. La Salle offered him a full scholarship. He had many options but his mom couldnt pay for it and or it was to far away. His mom had a sickness where she would gain a pound each day and didn't have money to go to a doctor. She finally qualified for a loan and made reservations to a sea food restaurant to celebrate steff's graduation. He struggled a lot in getting his way to win president because all the other boys had money to buy pins, pens, and basically buy their way to president. His mom didnt have enough to pay $44,000, so Steff found two jobs to help pay his tuition and got to go to college.
